Dear Democratic Colleagues:
The world is changing rapidly and with it, the Democratic Party. I don't have to tell you all that the Tea Party is gaining on us rapidly. We, at the Weston Democratic Club personally felt the damage that could be done when Tea Partiers came to our club to disrupt. Fortunately we handled it and persuaded them to leave peaceably. This did not come without the promise of backup from some of our male members. Violence was not far away. It was a scary moment for us all.
I saw it again when we stood on the corner of Royal Palm Blvd. and Weston Road waving at cars coming off of I75 at election time. Our good friend, Weston neighbor, and WDC member Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz was the target at that time. Because of Debbie's increased visibility on the national stage, and on many TV interview shows, she has become a Tea Party target. Our club members were out in force with Debbie, waving at cars and enjoying good cheer. All that suddenly came to an end when her opponent's forces showed up. Among other things, they had that infamous bulls eye sign with Debbie's face in the middle that we have heard so much about in the news. They also had signs about the wonders of carrying guns. I was scared for both Debbie and the rest of us, and for the first time, I was happy we did not follow our usual pattern and bring our children to help campaign.
Our new Broward Congressman Allen West has shown his disregard for first amendment rights and for women and the Jewish people in many of his speeches. He is filled with hatred and shows it. His inflammatory CPAC speech has been all over the news. Glenn Beck has destroyed the sanity of American politics, helped by his friends at Fox News. Things are not going well for us. We let it all happen and now we need to turn it around.
The apathy and the thought that someone else can do it has to end. Quite obviously, someone else is not doing it. We are very aware that the Weston Democratic Club has many members who are involved with sports programs and other activities with their children. We are not asking you to give all that up for us. We know that when we need you to bring your message to your friends and get the vote out, you are there for us. In our neck of the woods, Democrats were elected, but we need more than that from you. We need just $10.00 per person. Not only do we need it from you, but we need it from your friends as well. We need to show the Tea Partiers that they cannot have Weston. We are just too strong. Please mail us your check (get checks from all your friends and mail it in one envelope). If you have friends who are on our Board, give them your check or your $10.00 in cash. Our calendar year is just beginning and the times have become desperate.
2012 is rapidly bearing down on us. That is the date of our next, important election. We have a chance to get rid of Allen West, we need to make sure that we reelect our Democratic President, and take back Congress. We need to make sure the Tea Partiers don't finally get Debbie. We need to make sure that we elect Democrats to both the State Legislature and the State Senate. At this moment we have two good Weston candidates, (in alphabetical order) WDC member Rick Stark and former Weston commissioner Dan Stermer running for the State House and our own Rep. Marty Kiar running for State Senate. At this time there is no way to know what the districts will be, but there is a good chance we can elect all of them to various seats. All told we need to show strength and the only way that you can do that is to mail or give someone your checks or your cash. $10.00 is not a lot of money and your numbers can make all the difference in the world.
Please mail your checks to me. My mailing address is:

All we need you to include is your name, address, phone and email address, we will take care of the rest. I look forward to hearing from you and to you telling your friends that their numbers are needed to keep our area Democratic.
Democratically yours,
Ann
